September 16
DUBAI: The Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality has issued a
comprehensive directory for the inspection on fish and marine products. It
concerns the matters relating to the specifications of fish in accordance with
the decree.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said that the
city of Dubai has a large market that imports huge amounts of fish and
re-exports it abroad. The fishery is one of the key sources of economy in the
UAE.
He noted that the directory is an important reference for those interested in
identifying the types of fish in local markets and the validity detection
methods. It explains the specifications and conditions, as well as the safety
requirements and quality of fresh fish and marine products.
The quality control procedures to ensure access of healthy and safe food to
consumers and the help to preserve the fisheries were also included in the
directory.
Such a
directory is applied in all institutions that trade in fish and marine
products, whether fresh or chilled, and markets where fish and marine
products are sold in Dubai.
