Bahrain's Batelco launches first smartphone for 5G network
Bahrain: Batelco, the Bahrain-based
telecoms operator, has launched Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, the first 5G network supported
device in the kingdom.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, which went on sale on Wednesday, was tested on Batelco’s 5G
network by a professional gamer who commented on the speed of the device.
Batelco CEO Mikkel Vinter said: “We are very proud to be the first company to
launch the 5G device in Bahrain, which will provide new exciting experience to
our customers including higher speeds for uploads and downloads while
maintaining almost zero latency.
"The launch is in line with our strategy of bringing 5G technology to Bahrain,
as we were among the first in the region to launch the 5G network when we
announced it back in June."
He added that a variety of different 5G devices will be made available in
Bahrain over the next few months.
In May, Batelco announced the completion of its legal separation into two
entities to cover broadband infrastructure and retail operations.
Earlier this year, the telco partnered with Swedish tech giant Ericsson to roll
out its commercial 5G services.
