Sheikh Mohammed launches biggest e-learning platform
Emirates:
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,
launched the new e-learning platform, www.madrasa.org, which will give over 50
million Arab students around the world access to 5,000 educational videos for
free.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid eLearning platform,
considered the biggest in the Arab world, provides arabised videos in general
science, math, biology, chemistry and physics for students from KG to grade 12.
The platform is the outcome of the Translation
Challenge, announced last year, that attracted thousands of volunteers across
the Arab world to translate 5,000 videos and 11 million words of educational
content into Arabic.
During the ceremony, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al
Maktoum Global Initiatives also announced the 1000x1000 competition, which will
give students the chance to win $1,000 for answering one question a day for
1,000 days. The competition will give away $1 million worth of awards.
Teachers, engineers, researchers, university
students, employees, retirees, technicians and graphic designers contributed in
fields of translation, voiceover and video production, and publication.
Addressing the crowd, Sheikh Mohammed said: "I
said last year that our first, second and third priority is education. I would
like to tell you that [this platform] is just the beginning."
The e-learning platform aims to reignite the Arab
world's glory and development in maths and science. It will be available on
Android and iOS to provide attractive educational content for students.
